Andorseason 2 has premiered with an explosive start, and the next batch of episodes will take us deeper into the Empire’s treachery and the sacrifices needed to keep the Rebellion alive.Andorseason 2consists of 12 episodes, divided into four blocks. Each new three-episode drop will cover one year of Cassian Andor’s life and the Rebel Alliance’s growth, leading straight into the events ofRogue One: A Star Wars Story, and, by extension, the original 1977Star Warsmovie.

The first three episodes ofAndorseason 2, set in 4BBY (four years before the Battle of Yavin, when the Death Star was destroyed, and one year afterAndorseason 1), depicted the lives of the Ferrix survivors, the Empire’s plans for Ghorman, Cassian’s mission to steal a dangerous prototype TIE-Fighter, and how Mon Mothma’s commitment to the Rebellion has forced her young daughter into an arranged marriage. So far,Andorseason 2 hasn’t held back on confronting the horrific consequences of an oppressive regime, and the next few episodes will likely go even further.

Previously,Andorcreator Tony Gilroy revealed that an in-universe event known asthe Ghorman Massacre will play a major role inAndorseason 2, covered across five episodes. Given the return ofBen Mendelsohn’s Director Krennicin the new season’s first episode and his closed-door Imperial “think tank” to debate how the Empire should forcibly invade Ghorman for its abundant resources,it’s safe to assume that the impending Ghorman Massacre will be one of the main narrative threads of the next three episodes. These will be set in 3BBY.

This might include how far the Empire’s extraction operations have grown on Ghorman, how they have affected the planet’s environment – the dire consequences of the Empire’s planned excavation were a key talking point in Krennic’s meeting – and how the galaxy at large reacts to the Empire’s handling of Ghorman protestors. This will set the stage for the Empire’s eventual violent escalation. The Ghorman Massacre doesn’t canonically occur until 2BBY, which will be covered inAndorseason 2’s third three-episode block.

We know fromStar Wars Rebelsthatthe Ghorman Massacre plays a major role in Mon Mothma’s Rebellion legacy. It’s what finally forced her to publicly call out Emperor Palpatine and leave behind the Imperial Senate to lead the newly-formed Rebel Alliance, so presumably, we’ll see Mon’s reaction to Ghorman’s deteriorating state, too. Given the one-year time skip betweenAndorepisodes 1-3and 4-6, it will also be interesting (and heartbreaking) to see how the dynamic between the Ferrix survivors has changed after what they went through on Mina-Rau, followingBix Caleen’s traumaand Brasso’s death inAndorseason 2’s premiere.
