As many well know, theSonic the Hedgehogmovie will be on its way to theaters later this year. Yet, beyond someleaked images of Sonic from theSonic the Hedgehogmovieand marketing material, there is still much unknown regarding the upcoming video game movie. However, Twitter user SEGAbits has posted a leaked image of Jim Carrey as Dr. Robotnik, as well as a rumored bit of information regarding an upcoming trailer for the film.
Previously, there were no images available of Jim Carrey as Dr. Eggman/Robotnik, save for aSonic the Hedgehogfan poster. Furthermore, there haven’t been any images of fellow cast member James Marsden released. Thus far, the only images of the movie available for viewing are those of the titular character. However, an image of Jim Carrey in the movie has now been leaked for all to see.
The image’s content is fairly straightforward. It shows Jim Carrey’s Dr. Robotnik, goggles off, smirking while in some kind of cockpit, or at least overlooking some scenery. A city lies in the background while Jim Carrey pulls off his most devilish look possible. He wears a very similar jacket to the Dr. Robotnik gamers have known since Sonic’s first 16-bit outing and sports an equally daunting, if subtler, mustache. However, unlike his bald video game counterpart inSonic the Hedgehog, Jim Carrey’s Dr. Robotnik sports a crewcut-esque hairstyle.

The post from SEGAbits also reports the possibility of a trailer being released tomorrow, April 30, as well. However, since the post also states that’s coming from the rumor mill, a trailer drop tomorrow isn’t quite a surefire thing.
This image is fairly fascinating, as Jim Carrey wouldn’t exactly be the first person to come to mind when one thinks of all possible actors for a live action Dr. Robotnik role. His slender, bony physique doesn’t quite make him the perfect candidate, but given the villain’s comically zany behavior in the 3DSonicgames, it may not be such a stretch for theAce Venturastar to portray Sonic’s longtime foe.
