The rebootedMortal Kombatmovie universe is officially now a series, rather than a standalone movie. TheMortal Kombatsequel is moving full speed ahead, and now it has the man who will pen the script inMoon Knightwriter Jeremy Slater.
The first rebootedMortal Kombatmovie was released in April 2021 in both theaters and on HBO Max because of the coronavirus pandemic. While other movies released in the last few years have had problems gaining a foothold, this movie based on the popular video game managed to take the top spot at the box office when it was released.Mortal Kombatwas also viewedas one of the most successful new movies to launch on HBO Max.

Deadline reported that Jeremy Slater has officially signed on now that his work onMoon Knightis finished, at least for season 1. The new Disney Plus series has been teased for some time and finally got an official release date earlier this month.Moon Knightis heading to Disney Pluson March 30. Now that Slater is free to move on to other projects, he’s among the first who has officially signed on to theMortal Kombatsequel.
There isn’t a great deal known about who else will be joining the Mortal Kombat sequel or what the plot will be. Of course, it stands to reason it will be a continuation of the first film and will be at least loosely based on the video game series that’s been going strong for more than two decades. It stands to reason that at least somecast fromMortal Kombatwill be returning, though what characters for certain will be making an appearance hasn’t been announced. The first flick ended with Cole Young seemingly setting out to recruit fighters to his cause, including Hollywood star Johnny Cage.
One the one hand, there are plenty of story beats to pull from when it comes totheMortal Kombatmythology. On the other, most of those storylines are similar enough that it’s a safe bet thatMortal Kombat 2will feature a group of humans and their god-like allies facing off against a horde of monsters who all want to try and invade Earth’s dimension. The big question now is just which monstrous creations could be making an appearance in this movie, and who will take on the hero roles trying to save the world?
