This post contains a PREVIEW for Star Wars: Doctor Aphra - Chaos Agent #2Luke Skywalkerjust made a hilarious callback toA New Hope, and it will likely change how you see a classicStar Warsline from the Rebel hero. Ever the optimist, Luke Skywalker believed destroying the Death Star wasn’t impossible, comparing it to his days back home on Tatooine. Humorously, it seems Luke is still making comparisons to womp rats even in the New Republic Era.
DuringA New Hope’sbriefing before the Death Star assault, a skeptical pilot believed targeting a 2-meter exhaust port with proton torpedoes would be impossible. However, Luke counters that the womp rats he used to shoot in his T-16 back home weren’t much bigger. It’s a classic Luke line, now even funnier thanks to Marvel’sStar Wars: Doctor Aphra - Chaos Agent #2.

Jeez Luke, Not Everything Is Applicable To Womp Rats!
You Can Take The Boy Out Of The Moisture Farm…
Years after the events ofA New Hope, Luke Skywalker is a full-fledged Jedi Knight during theNew Republic Era.On a mission for the New Republic’s Department of Artifacts and Archival Goods Retrieval, Luke is joined by the department’s newest recruit, Doctor Chelli Aphra, the former rogue archaeologist who got the job thanks to Skywalker himself.
Still unsure about her new role, Doctor Aphra is quite agitated as she’s still on probation given her criminal past. This probation mainly resulted in the Daggers deactivating Aphra’s electro-tattoos, incredibly useful tools she typically relied upon as an outlaw.

As a result, Luke says that Aphra reminds him of “a womp rat, chewing its own tail off.“After a beat, Aphra asks if that’s the entire story, and Luke hilariously says yes.Luke seems to frequently have womp rats on the brain, ready to recall his past life on Tatooine even in the most forced of circumstances.
Of course,A New Hope’swomp rat line seems like a one-off. That said,I find the idea of former farm boy Luke Skywalker repeatedly bringing up his childhood vermin very funny, even as a Jedi Knight who’s had so many different circumstances and visited so many worlds since his days working at his uncle’s moisture farm.

Luke Skywalker’s new womp rat comparison is a great callback toA New Hope, one that’s easy to miss or overlook but is actually pretty funny when you think about it.
Star Wars: Doctor Aphra - Chaos Agent #2releases 02-06-2025 from Marvel Comics.
Luke Skywalker
The son of Anakin Skywalker and Padmé Amidala, Luke was brought up on the desert planet Tatooine. Initially mentored by Obi-Wan Kenobi, Luke fired the fateful shot that destroyed the Death Star, and he became a rebel hero. Despite the fears of Obi-Wan and Yoda, Luke’s faith in his father was proved well-founded when Vader returned to the light. With the Emperor defeated, Luke dedicated himself to bringing back the Jedi; his first attempt ended in tragedy due to Palpatine’s manipulations, but Luke’s legacy lives on in Rey.
Doctor Aphra
An archaeologist who trained at the University of Bar’leth, Doctor Aphra has always tended to put her own interests first. She’s particularly interested in retrieving valuable relics related to ancient (and forbidden) Force traditions, and this has often brought her to the attention of Darth Vader and even Palpatine himself. Aphra is an unlikely ally for the Rebel Alliance, but she’s clearly on a path of redemption, one that could potentially lead to uncovering ancient Jedi secrets.
