At the 90th Academy Awards (The Oscars) which took place over the weekend, Guillermo del Toro took home the trophy for Best Director for his work onThe Shape of Water. That film also picked up the trophies for Best Picture, Best Original Score, and Best Production Design. Overall, the evening was pretty successful for del Toro.

To congratulate the filmmaker on his big win, del Toro’s collaborator and friend, Hideo Kojima, took to Twitter.del Toro will be a characterinDeath Stranding, the mysterious action game currently being developed by Kojima and the team at Kojima Productions, and so it was only fitting that the celebratory image Kojima posted was of GDT’s character in the game.

The replies to Kojima’s newDeath Strandingtweet are inundated with fans congratulating del Toro on his win, with many people saying that they enjoyedThe Shape of Waterand are glad to see del Toro’s talent formally recognized by the Academy. A few fans have also decided to award Kojima with the title of “Best Friend,” saying that it’s positive to see that Kojima and the director have such a strong bond. Fans will remember that del Toro once insulted Konami (Kojima’s former employer), in another example of what a supportive friend looks like.

A few fans, however, have already begun to discuss what this new image of del Toro’s character means as it appears to be slightly different than the footage from thaticonic Game Awards 2016 trailer. In the trailer, del Toro has his back to the wall as he seems to be hiding from an army that crosses a bridge above him. However, in this new photo, fans can see some sort of lush greenery in the background and the bricks look a little bit different to those in The Game Awards trailer too.

del Toro isn’t expected to feature heavily inDeath Stranding- at least, not as much compared to Mads Mikkelsen and Norman Reedus. But this screenshot would seem to confirm that players will at least follow the character to more than one location. It’s not yet known exactly what del Toro’s character will get up to and whether Kojima will heeds fans' calls to include an Academy Awards easter egg in the game, but hopefully Strandingwill be revealed soon.
