In a new clip fromThe Kelly Clarkson Show, the “Vampire” singer, 20, and “Since U Been Gone” artist, 41, bonded over moving to New York and singing with the “Ironic” performer, 49.
After noting she recently had the opportunity to perform with Morissette — one of Clarkson’s “heroes” — Rodrigo chimed in saying she was one of her’s, too, and sang with her as well.
“I’m so proud of you!” the “Rock Hudson” musician told the pop megastar. “Because you’re 20. I’m sure someone has it somewhere but whenSourcame out, I was like ‘oh this chick is like the new Alanis for her generation.’ You’re like the new Alanis for your generation. It was that kind of impact of the [record]."

Clarkson added: “And you’re young to be a fan of hers! Do you have the coolest mom ever or something?"
“I do have the coolest mom ever,” Rodrigo replied.
She recalled one song in particular that made her fall in love with Morissette.
“I remember hearing ‘You Oughta Know’ on the radio and being 12 years old and being like, ‘What is this? She can say the line about the theater?’ That’s insane,” Rodrigo recalled
Clarkson said Morissette is “one of the main reasons why she’s a songwriter.”

“You don’t realize the impact you make as an artist on people, and she just impacted so many — for different generations,” she explained.
Elsewhere in the interview Rodrigo showed off the in-ear monitors from herSourtour, which featured photos ofRobert Pattinson’sTwilightfranchise character, Edward Cullen.
“Yeah, you can put photos of your kids. You can put photos of anyone,” replied the “Traitor” musician, as photos of her lavender,Twilight-themed in-ear monitors were displayed on a large screen.
“Those are mine,” continued Rodrigo. “That’sEdward Cullen on my in-ears. He’s my guiding light on tour. I have to have my lucky charm… Love him.”

The Grammy-winning performer said she plans to display “a new face” on her in-ear monitors every tour before revealing what character appears on her current pair and claiming Clarkson could be featured on her next set. “Aim for something random, likeBetty White,” suggested theAmerican Idolalum.
