Kang and his variants have essentially disappeared from theMarvel Cinematic Universe (MCU)sinceLokiseason 2 in 2023, but his character could have gotten a major power upgrade in a 2025 project. Played by Jonathan Majors,Kang the Conquerorwas originally envisioned as the greatest villain of the Multiverse Saga.
Variants of Kang were positioned as the true villains of the Multiverse Saga, with some even coming together into the so-called “Council of Kangs.” It’s safe to assume these plot threads will be abandoned, though, given Marvel has moved away from Kang and towards Doctor Doom as the main villain of this saga.

2025’s Most Recent MCU Release Would’ve Been A Perfect Setup For Kang’s Story
Oddly, though, that’s a particular shame given Marvel’s latest MCU release would have been perfect for him. Kang is so much more than just a conqueror; he’s the master of time travel, andEyes of Wakandaexplores different parts of the MCU timeline. This would have been the perfect chance to show Kang turning up throughout history.
Eyes of Wakanda’s endingcentered on the concept of time travel, with a Black Panther from the future attempting to rewrite history. This, again, would have been ideal development for Kang; it would have established that time can be rewritten, revealing the scale of the threat Kang poses.

But Kang is nowhere in sight, completely forgotten after his defeat inAnt-Man & the Wasp: Quantumania.
Why The MCU’s Kang Story Doesn’t Look Like It May Ever Be Followed Up On
Jonathan Majors was fired by Marvelafter he was convicted of misdemeanor third-degree assault and second-degree harassment of his ex-girlfriend, Grace Jabbari. Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige has since suggested Kang wasn’t connecting with audiences anyway, meaning the MCU was already likely to pivot.
With Majors gone, it looks as thoughAnt-Man & the Wasp: Quantumania’s Council of Kangs is probably going to be forgotten. The focus has now shifted entirely to Doctor Doom; it’s possible Marvel will do a recast to explain how the Council of Kangs was wiped out, perhaps to establish Doom’s threat, but even this seems unlikely.
While Kang had potential for greatness in the MCU, and his conquering ways were barely uncovered in the movies and TV shows, his story appears to be well and truly over. Now, theMCUhas set its sights on the next chapter, and there is no turning back.
