In an interview published on Thursday, theTransformersstar opened up toParadeabout welcoming another child at 50 with wifeAudra Mari, and how his 10-year-old is responding to the news.
“He’s like, ‘Wait, now, am I going to be — You’re still going to love me, though, too, right?'” Duhamel said of an inquisitive Axl, whom he shares with his ex-wifeFergie.
“I was like, ‘Of course, I’m going to still love you.’ And he’s like, ‘I’m still going to be your firstborn son, though, right?’ I’m like, ‘Yeah, you’re still the firstborn son!’ ” theShotgun Weddingactor added.

“He’s a really sweet kid. And he loves babies!” the father said. “I was the same way at his age. I just have always loved babies. There’s something about them. And he’s really good with younger kids. So I think he’s going to be a great older brother.”

“You dropped some pretty big news the other day. Do you want to share it with the rest of the audience?“Kelly Ripaasked Duhamel after theLife as We Know Itstar made a social media announcement beforehand.
“Does Axl know?” Ripa, 52, responded.
“He does know! He’s excited,” Duhamel admitted. “He’s very excited. I don’t think he quite understands that it’s actually real. He will once he sees this little thing in front of him. I think I’m probably the same.”
Ripa noted that 10 is “a great age” because he’s “prime big brother material.”

“Yeah, I think it’s going to be good for him because he’s been an only child up to this point,” Duhamel continued. “And now he’s going to have some responsibility. He’s excited. He’s going to be a great older brother, too. He’s a really sweet-natured kid who loves babies, so I think this is kind of perfect.”
“I think if we have a dog, we’ll name it Gary,” the actor quipped. “But no, no.”

A source told PEOPLE the couple had “a great time” and that the evening “was lovely.”
Theirengagement was announcedin January 2022, when Duhamel uploaded a photo to Instagram of the two smiling on the beach as the sun set.
“It’s on,” he captioned the sweet post. “She found a message in a bottle that washed ashore and said YES!!@audramari.”
