The Irish government has unveiled a seven-step license application for online betting.
Earlier this year, the Irish government announced its plan to launch a newgambling licensing systemunder the new Gambling Regulation Act. The Gambling Regulatory Authority of Ireland (GRAI) will begin rolling out license applications for online betting in late 2025, withonline casinolicensing to follow suit in 2026.

Following this news, the GRAI officially revealed an intricate licensing guideline for its new gambling system. It should help potential licensees with the application process.

To apply for a betting license in Ireland, applicants must go through the seven-step license application process. It includes publishing a Notice of Intent, among other things, 28 days before submitting the full application.
Additionally, applicants must submit documents that include information about their business, corporation, insurance, and financial statements. The Licensing Application Guidelines for this new gambling system are available onGRAI’s website, in case anyone’s interested in learning more.

Initially, the focus is on Business-to-Consumer license applications, with types such as in-person betting, remote betting, and a remote betting intermediary license. Applications for Gaming and Lottery licenses will open on a later date.
The GRAI was established on June 04, 2025, for licensing and regulating gambling operators in Ireland. The aforementioned license application is a way for applicants to obtain a betting license under the country’s new and interim licensing policies.
