Where to get the Go Fish Quest

After leaving the Imperial City and getting afree horse from the Chestnut Handy Stables, head through the bridge, and you’ll arrive at a small settlement called Weye.

You should find an inn in the area, and at its front is a house owned by a man named Aelwin Merowald. Talking to him will trigger the Go Fish Quest.

How to complete the Go Fish quest in Oblivion Remastered

Despite its name, you won’t need a rod to finish the Go Fish quest in Oblivion Remastered. The quest giver, Aelwin, will talk about his retirement plans and that a customer promised him a hefty amount of gold in exchange for 12 Rumare Slaughterfish Scales.

Hunting Rumare Slaughterfish

Your task here is to help him get those scales from the Rumare Slaughterfish that lurk in the Rumare Lake that surrounds the Imperial City. From the Quests tab, activate the Go Fish quest, and you’re able to see a marker that leads you somewhere at the center of the lake.

The game is supposed to show you the location of a Rumare Slaughterfish, but there’s a good chance you’ll find nothing there. In this case, go to the docks behind the Wawnet Inn and see if you can find a Rumare Slaughterfish that floats on a nearby bank.

Unlike the regular Slaughterfish in other Elder Scrolls games, spotting a Rumare Slaughterfish is much easier since they always stay near the surface of the water, and may sometimes leap into the air, making them visible from a distance.

These fish don’t stay near the quest marker for long, often drifting toward the shallow areas along the lake shore.

By walking near the Rumare Lake (you can start from the docks behind the Wawnet Inn), you can find as many as six Rumare Slaughterfish along the way. They usually don’t fight back if you hit them with weapons or arrows, but be ready for combat just in case.

A dead Rumare Slaughterfish drops one scale, so you have to find 12 of them to complete the quest.

Tip:While looking for the Rumare Slaughterfish, keep an eye out for the Mudcrabs that also reside in the area.

The Rumare Slaughterfish bug

After taking down several Rumare Slaughterfish near the lake shore, you’ll eventually notice they no longer appear in their usual spots. This is acommon bugthat prevents lots of players lately from collecting more scales. But there’s actually a workaround for this.

Leave the Weye Settlement and try to do other quests for at least three days. If you manage to pick lots of Nirnroots on Lake Rumare’s shore, you’re able to consider going to Skingrad and tackling Sinderion’s quest. The important thing here is to spend many days and nights in faraway cities until the Rumare Slaughterfish in the lake respawn.

If you think you already spent enough time on other quests, go back to Lake Rumare, and you should find some Rumare Slaughterfish there. You can also swim around the lake and look for anything that jumps or moves until you acquire 12 scales.
