Devil May Cry is the next video game adaptation coming to our screens. The series is coming exclusively to Netflix in April.
From the series of videogames launched in 2001 for PlayStation 2, Devil May Cry is coming to our screens soon. This urban fantasy action series is directed by Adi Shankar, the same as Castlevania (2017). It will be exclusively streamed on Netflix.
Release date
Devil May Cry will be on Netflix on Apr. 3 with eight episodes. The official opening is already out on YouTube, and it’s called “Rollin” by Limp Bizkit and animated by Studio Mir. The adaptation was announced in 2023 during Netflix’s Drop 01.
Dante, the main character, is dubbed in English by the voice actor Johnny Yong Bosch who plays the role of another character, Nero. This was very controversial in the fandom since Dante was originally dubbed by Reuben Langdon in the games. As for other iconic characters, such as Vergil, there is still no confirmation of his appearance in this season or future ones.
Devil May Cry: origins
This franchise was created back in 2001 by Hideki Kamiya, which you might know for other projects such as Resident Evil 2 (1998) and Bayonetta (2009). In Devil May Cry, we follow Dante, a demon hunter, fighting invasors coming to hurt people on Earth.
This story is inspired by the Divine Comedy by Dante, an Italian poet. According to Hideki Kamiya himself, he created Devil May Cry after a failed attempt to develop a Resident Evil game, with the first game originally being conceived as Resident Evil 4.
The game became a success, selling over 32 million copies and having multiple adaptations like comic books, novelizations, animated series, guides, collectibles, publications, and action figures.

As for reactions, people are not quite thrilled but are curious to see how the series will be. Since it’s the same studio that produced Castlevania, some fans are confident it is going to be a good show.
Manyfanshave been waiting for this for a while. Like usual with any adaptation, there are still somepeople skepticalabout it since adaptations from video games are often “fumbled” like the Until Daw movie which is also coming out this year to movie theaters.
