In recent year,Destinyfans have enjoyed participating in theFestival of the Lost, a special in-game event that celebrates Halloween. However, forDestiny 2’s first year Bungie has decided not to bring the event back.
According to Community Manager DeeJ, Festival of the Lost won’t be happening inDestiny 2this year for a couple of reasons. First, Season 1 is focused on launch instead of running holiday events. Secondly, the first event planned forDestiny 2is The Dawning, which is a winter-themed event set to kick off in December as part of the game’s second season of content.
Some fans may be disappointed to learn that the Festival of the Lost won’t be inDestiny 2this year, but it shouldn’t come as a big surprise. After all, the originalDestinydidn’t introduce the Halloween-themed event until October 2015, over a year after the game launched andThe Taken Kingexpansion was introduced.
ForDestiny 2players that missed out on the original game’s festivities, the Festival of the Lost featured new quests, Halloween sound effects, decorations for the Tower, and more. The event also gave players the opportunity to collect special masks that gave their Guardians a unique look, including a Ghost mask and a Lost Prince mask.
It’s unfortunate thatDestiny 2players won’t have the opportunity to collect any masks this year, but DeeJ’s comment leaves the door open for the Festival of the Lost to return next year. In the meantime, fans can look forward to The Dawning event in December, which will include a number of fun activities, like snowball fights and ice hockey.
Whether or notDestiny 2fans take to The Dawning event as much as they did Festival of the Lost remains to be seen, but regardless it should provide players with more to do in the game. It may even convince the many lapsed players to return, especially if it releases around the same time as theCurse of Osirisexpansionas speculated.
Destiny 2is available now for PS4 and Xbox One. The PC version launches on October 24th.
