A throwback to the ZX Spectrum

Nicalis is known for bringing standout indie titles to wider audiences, most notablyThe Binding of Isaac: Rebirth,Cave Story, and1001 Spikes. Next up for Nicalis isCreepy Castle, a sidescrolling RPG adventure developed by Dopterra.

Featuring a retro art style influenced by the ZX Spectrum,Creepy Castlefollows the story of a moth (conveniently named Moth) who is exploring an ancient castle to discover the secrets within. It utilizes a turn-based combat system with unique twists depending on the enemy and multiple storylines each with their own characters, plots, and gameplay mechanics.

It certainly looks promising and super adorable, especially if theKickstartervideo is still anything to go by. There may also be some special guests from other indie titles, includingShovel Knight,Super Meat Boy, andFive Nights at Freddy’s, if you’re into that sort of thing.

Creepy Castlewill be coming to PC, Mac, and Linux this summer.
