Gearbox franchise back with a bang

In a week that saw the release of two of the year’s biggest shooters, Gearbox’ chaotic sequelBorderlands 3successfully landed at the top of the UK Charts. Not only that, but (as reported byGamesIndustry.biz) the off-world adventure is now the highest-selling physical release of 2019, beating out Sony’sDays Gone, which held the record since March.

FollowingBorderlands 3is Microsoft’s newest entry in the legendaryGears of Warseries, althoughGears 5’sphysical numbers are hampered somewhat by factors such as platform exclusivity and Xbox Game Pass. In third place is Konami’sEFootball PES 2020, which was practically guaranteed a good launch as the first major soccer release of the year.

Elsewhere in the charts, kudos to Focus Home’s expeditiousGreedfall, which managed to climb into the Top Five during a major launch week, despite being a mid-tier release from a marketing standpoint. Nintendo and Marvelous’sDaemon x Machinadebuted at number 19, while Take 2’s perennial mainstayGrand Theft Auto Vsnuck back into the Top Ten at number 8.
