Confirmed Changes to Ranked Mode
“Season 18 focus:updating matchmaking to better handle players that are actively challenging their MMR to ensure a competitively challenging match that mirrors their current ranking.”
EA posted a deep dive on Season 17’s ranked system and acknowledged it was flawed. EA stated the “overly generous ladder points” in Apex Legends Season 17 were a contributing factor in the “inflated number of players in Masters”.

This led to28% of players reaching Masters rank. The goal of ranked mode in Season 18 is to reduced that number to “represent 1% or less of the player population"according to EA.
