Will Burrard - Lucas like to photograph unsuspecting African animals with strategically placed camera traps . For his former project , the wildlife lensman sought to capture images of nocturnal beast as they conduct their affairs at Nox , and the answer are spectacular .
Burrard - Lucas , with the help ofAfrican ParksandNorman Carr Safaris , latterly undertook two expeditions to Liuwa Plain , a remote national park in the west of Zambia . His destination was to capture spectacular images of animals in low - twinkle conditions , which can be a redoubtable and technically challenging job .
His first aim was to take images designate animate being under the beautiful , starry sky . “ To achieve these shots , I would need a wide of the mark - angle lens and a soil - level linear perspective so that I could look up at the subject and have the sky as a background , ” he explain at hisblog . “ BeetleCam , my remote control camera buggy , would be the perfect cock for this . ”

During his first night in Liuwa , he managed to photograph a pride of king of beasts ( shown above in the streamer ) , which turn out to be one of his favourite from the task . He also crack some cool solo shot .
“ Hyenas greatly outnumber the Leo and are the dominant predators in Liuwa Plain , ” say Burrard - Lucas . “ They are mainly nocturnal so they made idealistic subjects for this project . ”
In the image directly above , some of the hyaena move after the blink of an eye , form the ghost - similar figures to the left and right wing of the hyenas at the center of the photograph .

By setting up hisCamtraptionscamera trapsnear a watering hole , Burrard - Lucas manage to becharm image of a hedgehog and a zebra move in for a sip . zebra are n’t especially known for being fighting at nighttime , so the double view the lensman by surprise .
The picture below , showing a group of reedbuck as they were backlight by flames , is particularly arresting .
The storms in the Liuwa Plain are quite dramatic , so Burrard - Lucas seek to shoot the lightning as it appeared behind an creature . “ I found a hyaena and trace it up with the storm . I then took back - to - back long vulnerability hoping that a lightning bolt would eventually expunge in the right spot and silhouette the animal , ” Burrard - Lucas write . “ The hyaena was move so keeping it lined - up with the violent storm ( again in the pitch shadow ) was challenging but my perseverance was rewarded with the shot below . ”
